PADI Underwater Navigator Specialty

The Fun Part
Finding your way is not a matter of luck! When everyone’s excited about a reef or looking at a shipwreck and they’re having a great time until it’s time to leave and they turn to you, because as a Navigator, you know the way back to the boat and they trust you.
What do I need to start?
Participants must hold a minimum diver certification of PADI Open Water Diver, or an equivalent rating
Minimum Age: 10 Years old
What will I do?
Underwater navigation can be challenging, but you will eventually master the compass work and it will all come so naturally to you. You learn the tools of the trade, including navigation via natural surroundings and by compass. After the course is complete, you will be more aware of your diving surroundings and take note of more objects that stand out for natural navigation.
You will learn:
- Navigation patterns
- Natural navigation
- Compass navigation
- How to “mark” or relocate a submerged object or position from the surface
- Underwater map making
- How to follow irregular courses with the Nav-Finder
- Dive site relocation
- How to estimate distance underwater
How long will it take?
Three dives over two days

The PADI Underwater Navigation Course is part of the PADI Diver Continuing Education Program, designed to encourage divers to further their Knowledge and Skills under the safe supervision of professional instructors. It combines well with other such courses such as the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Diver Specialty Course.
