PADI TEC 50

To venture outside the world of recreational diving requires training and equipment beyond the scope of that learned in recreational scuba diving courses.

The PADI Tec 50 course enables the diver to conduct gas-switch extended decompression dives using two decompression gases of up to 100 percent oxygen to a depth of 50 meters.   The course consists of self-study followed by an evening of academic work, an evening pool session, and three open water dives conducted over two days. The last dive can be conducted on trimix if required.

To enroll in the PADI Tec 50 you need to:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Be certified as a Tec 45 diver or provide a qualifying certification from another training organization. For the purposes of this level, a qualifying technical certification is one that qualifies the student to make decompression dives to 45 meters using air, nitrox, and oxygen using open circuit, double cylinder scuba equipment.
  • Be certified as a PADI Rescue Diver or provide a qualifying certification from another training organization. For this course, a qualifying certification is proof of training in diver rescue. Students who meet this prerequisite through a qualifying certification must provide proof of training in CPR and First Aid within the previous two years.
  • Have a minimum of 100 logged dives, of which at least 25 dives were made with nitrox deeper than 18 meters, and have at least 20 dives deeper than 30 meters
  • Have a medical form signed by your physician within the last 12 months

Your Tec Deep Instructor may also introduce you to using trimix on the last open water dive.

Included in the course are all training, transport to the dive sites, and the following equipment rental: cylinder, wing and backplate, regulator and specialized equipment hire. Other equipment hires, boat/ferry fees (if applicable), accommodation, gas fees, and eLearning are not included.

Note that Helium (if using) can be expensive so gas fees can be substantial. Contact the dive centre to discuss your training needs if required.
