Brothers & Northern Wrecks Egypt

As many of our divers who visited us this year are probably aware I was fortunate enough to be invited to Egypt after the season finished, and dive for a week from the M/Y Charlotte.

This was a first for me…On a live-aboard and to Egypt. So I was not really sure what to expect!

My Hosts were Paul and Jayne who are the boat owners and operators (Bavaria Blue-Safari) and the trip was organised by Keith and Glynis from our partners at KLJ Diver Travel.

Keith & Glynis organise trips to many destinations and are very helpful with pre-departure information but basically you need to get your arse to Hurghada with your dive gear and some shorts and t shirts.

This boat is not a luxury hot tub, champagne cocktail type of affair so a couple of pairs of shorts and t-shirts are adequate for meal times.

I was met at the airport by Paul and as it was 3am in the morning and I had been in Istanbul for 9 hours was keen to hit my bed. It’s great as the boat is moored in Hurghada and is only 10 minutes away from the airport although weather depending the boat can be further south.

In a nutshell all cabins are en-suite with plenty of room and air conditioned. I literally only slept in there as there is plenty of lounging space and sun decks to chill out, have a read and a cold beer.

The dive deck is plenty big enough and well organised with a choice of cylinders and fills, plus charging points for cameras and computers.

The diving is either boat 2 boat, boat 2 zodiac or zodiac 2 zodiac depending on mooring points at the divesites.

Paul is one guide and we had Omar as the other guide although you can also self-guide.

The itinerary is super flexible and recommendations are made on weather although a proposed  schedule is in place at the time of booking.

We dived up to 4 times a day with a combo of reefs, wrecks and night dives.

Overall obviously the sea life is a lot better than Malta, with sharks and turtles spotted, but for me the wrecks are really great, the day we dived at Abu nuhas being my favourite. We dived 3 great wrecks and I could have easily spent 2-3 days exploring these.

It is better if you are at least Advanced Open Water with Deep and Enriched Air Nitrox being desirable, you will also need to be able to deploy a DSMB as the currents can be strong.

All in all the packages from KLJ travel are extremely good value, the diving has something to suit everyone and the boat has everything you need…great organisation, flexibility, friendly, good food and cold beer.

We will hopefully be looking at running some New Dimension Scuba trips in the future but if you can’t wait or our dates won’t fit then check out www.kljdivertravel.co.uk.
