Instructor Candidate Materials
The PADI Dive Center, Resort, Course Director and/or IDC Staff Instructor conducting a course must ensure that instructor candidates have, in their possession, a personal set of materials for study and use during the course and for reference afterward; unless the materials are not available in a language understood by the candidate.
Instructor candidates must have a current version of these required materials:
• PADI Instructor Manual
• Instructor Candidate Workbook
• Recreational Dive Planner table and eRDPML and Instructions for Use booklets
• PADI Divemaster Manual
• Aquatic Cue Cards – for Open Water Dive, Adventures in Diving, Rescue Diver, Divemaster and Discover Scuba Diving
• Confined Water Lesson Preparation slate
• Open Water Training Dive Lesson Planning slate
• Diving Knowledge Workbook
PADI course manuals (OWD – Rescue) will be at your disposal at the dive centre.
EFRI Prerequisites
To enroll in an Emergency First Response Instructor course, an individual must:
1. Have completed a sanctioned course in adult and child/infant CPR within the past 24 months.
2. Have completed a sanctioned course in basic first aid within the past 24 months.
3. Be 18 years of age.
IDC Staff Instructor Prerequisites
To enroll in a PADI IDC Staff Instructor course, an individual must:
1. Be a renewed, Teaching status PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer.
2. Agree to conduct all PADI certification courses and experience programs using methods consistent with PADI Standards and philosophy as outlined in the PADI Instructor Manual.
3. Agree to use the PADI System and components in its entirety.
IDC Prerequisites
To enroll in an IDC, an individual must:
1. Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or hold a leadership level certification with another recreational diver training organization.
2. Be at least 18 years of age.
3. Submit medical clearance for diving signed by a physician, attesting to fitness to dive. The medical clearance must be current within the previous 12 months. The physician signing the medical clearance cannot be the applicant.
4. Have been a certified diver for at least six months and have completed and logged at least 60 scuba dives showing experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation (as documented in the individual’s log book.) Note: To attend an Instructor Examination (IE), the instructor candidate must have at least 100 logged scuba logged scuba dives (exceptions may include PADI 5 Star Career Development Center candidates).
5. Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.
6. Submit documentation of any qualifying certifications for entry level, advanced, rescue and leadership level issued by another recreational diver training organization. (PADI Members who have these records on file at PADI do not need to resubmit.)
7. If not a PADI Divemaster, successfully complete the PADI Divemaster course dive rescue assessment.
OWSI Program Prerequisites
To enroll in an OWSI Program, an individual must:
1. Be certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor or as a current instructor member in good standing with another recreational diver training organization for at least six months.
2. Be at least 18 years of age.
3. Submit medical clearance for diving signed by a physician, attesting to fitness to dive. The medical clearance must be current within the previous 12 months. The physician signing the medical clearance cannot be the applicant.
4. Have been a certified diver for at least six months and have completed and logged at least 60 dives showing experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.
Note: To attend an IE, the instructor candidate must have at least 100 logged dives.
5. Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.
6. Submit documentation of any qualifying certifications for entry level, advanced, rescue and leadership level issued by another recreational diver training organization. (PADI Members who have these records on file at PADI do not need to resubmit.)
